Mysterious little happenings around your home may be evidence of a haunting or the presence of a passed loved one. Maybe you heard a creak over here. Or you saw a flicker of light up there. Whether you don’t believe in ghosts or not, let’s all be honest here, we’ve all pondered the possibility of their existence.
There are some signs that indicate the presence of spirits. Here are some common signs that you may not be alone:
You spot infinity numbers.
Infinity numbers are often evidence that a passed loved one wants to offer you assurance that they’re present. Your loved ones can let you know they’re there by using infinity numbers, such as when you notice on the clock that it’s 11:11. These are infinity numbers. They’re never-ending. Your passed loved one is using the numbers to tell you, “I’m still here.”
You smell scents that don’t belong.
Out-of-place scents often appear when loved ones are trying to offer comfort with their presence. It can be any type of scent, but it will bring you a memory of a loved one who has passed. A common one is the smell of Old Spice because dad used to wear it.
Or it could be cigarette smoke, even if nobody has smoked in the home for years. Or it’s the aroma of a dish that your grandma used to cook years ago, but it’s suddenly wafting through your kitchen.
There are inexplicable plumbing or electrical issues.
Some spirits are more mischievous and troublesome than those of your loved ones who have passed.
The spirits of loved ones would not do anything to scare you. They let their presence be known in gentle, loving ways. However, mischievous spirits will do things that frighten you. These are spirits are connected to your home. To them, you don’t belong there.
Some homes have energy lingering from their original or previous owners. This energy might remain for a while and force its presence to be known.
Haunting incidences often increase when renovation work is being done on the home. This is especially true when the homeowners are new to the property. People all over the world report waking up at night during the renovation process.
Spirits are drawn to light fixtures. Often, multiple spirits will be attracted to the same light. That fixture will even be affected after you change the lightbulb, or an electrician checks the wiring.
You awaken at the witching hour.
If you’re awakened at 3 a.m. each night, it may be due to the spirits in your home. Though the veil between the physical realm and the spiritual realm is most delicate between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., most often we’re awakened between 3:15 a.m. and 3:30 a.m.
Because the veil is so delicate, spirits are easily able to nudge you, awaken you, and appear to you in your dreams.
You feel unexplained temperature changes in the home.
If chills suddenly go up your neck and the ambient temperature in the room changes, there may be a spirit present. You may get goosebumps or feel as if somebody is there with you. The air in the room may feel dense and heavy, or you could feel anxious just being in there.
Seeing flickers or shadows out of the corner of your eye are also common signs that spirits are present. Do any of these sound familiar?
Here are some things you can do to cleanse your home of the spirits you that don’t want there. Most people are comforted in sensing the spirit of a passed loved one. But if what you’re experiencing in your home feels more threatening, here are some suggestions to get the spirits to leave.
Ask the spirits to leave.
You have to communicate and show the spirits who’s in charge. Say, out loud, something like, “This home is ours now. While we honor your physical time here, we’re going to make some updates and changes. We’ll be very respectful.” It may even work to just say, “I need my sleep. You have to go!”
People may laugh at you when you do this, but it will help the spirits to feel legitimate. And it works. So, get comfortable. Pull up a chair and have a chat with your haunting guests over coffee. Then tell them it’s time for them to hit the road.
Have the home blessed.
Who you choose to do this for you depends on your own beliefs. But a spiritualist or a priest is essential for getting the job done right.
If you’re Catholic, you should also consider displaying crosses and sprinkling holy water throughout the home. Spiritualists put salt in certain places in the home, use crystals, or perform ceremonies.
If you’d prefer, simply open all of the curtains in the home. Bringing in the light will dispel darkness. Besides, let’s face it—everything is far more frightening in the dark!
Smudge the house.
Waving smoldering sage around like some spiritual goddess might help to make your house clean of any negativity in your house. Sage is used for healing, and its smoke blesses and cleanses.
So, get some sage smudge sticks and light them. Then smudge your whole house. Wave the stick around each room, even in the corners and the closets. This is called smudging. It clears out any negative energies and any being, whether physical or spiritual, that isn’t welcome.
These suggestions may sound like they came directly out of a classic horror flick. But they do work!
While I appreciate the cultural and spiritual practices mentioned here, I find it difficult to reconcile with my scientific worldview. Can these phenomena be replicated under controlled conditions? Doubtful, but interesting nonetheless.
I’d be more inclined to believe in these spectral encounters if someone could explain how spirits have mastered the art of digital clocks to always wake us up at 3:15 a.m. Precisely!
Seriously, asking spirits to leave? If only evicting bad tenants in real life were so easy. I’m glad the solution isn’t more complicated than having a cup of coffee with them and laying down the house rules. 🙄
Oh, definitely! Because nothing says ‘Welcome to the Afterlife’ like the smell of burnt sage and a stern talking-to at 3 a.m. 😂 Honestly, this article feels like a plot synopsis for the latest ghostbuster comedy.
This article is surprisingly informative and well-rounded. It touches on various signs and remedies that I wasn’t aware of. I’ll definitely be more mindful of those ‘infinity numbers’ moving forward.
