If you’ve ever wondered whether you could develop psychic abilities, you’re not alone. I hear this question all the time: “Do you really think I could become psychic?”
And my answer is always a heartfelt yes. Every single one of us has intuitive gifts, sometimes they’re hidden beneath layers of doubt or long-forgotten childhood experiences, but they’re there, waiting to be rediscovered. Let’s clear up some of the biggest myths that might be standing in your way.
Myth #1: Only Gifted People Have Psychic Powers
This is one of the most common misunderstandings I hear. People assume that psychics are born with some magical, unteachable gift that the rest of us don’t have. But here’s the truth: your intuition is your birthright.
Most of us naturally experienced psychic moments as children. But because they weren’t nurtured or validated, we slowly disconnected from them.
Some people retain their intuitive abilities throughout their lives. Others, like me, shut them down and later consciously work to reopen that door. And for a few, a sudden event like a near-death experience or emotional awakening can unlock their psychic senses in powerful ways.
I personally fall into both the first and second categories. I saw spirits as a child, but by the age of six or seven, I shut that part of myself down. My mother told me it was just my imagination, and being the rule-following child I was, I believed her. So, I ignored the energy around me and carried on like everyone else.
That all changed in 2007, when I officially began training as a professional intuitive. One night, I had a vivid encounter with a spirit that changed my life. A man in his thirties who was dark-haired and peaceful visited me in a dream-like vision. In a flash, he showed me an image of himself and his wife in a caravan, a trip they never got to take before he passed. His message was simple but deeply touching:
“I was not able to take my wife on holiday, but I’m so glad your boss did.”
The next day, I nervously told my boss about what I experienced. His reaction stunned me. He explained that his wife’s first husband had passed away years ago, and one of their dreams was to travel across the U.S. in a camper van, something they never got to do. After marrying my boss, she finally took that trip.
That experience taught me something I’ll never forget: You don’t have to be “born gifted” to reconnect with your psychic abilities. You just have to be open and willing to develop them.
Myth #2: Psychic Development Is Scary Because You Have to Talk to Spirits
I remember being so scared about the idea of opening up my psychic gifts again. I didn’t want to see ghosts lurking around the corner or wake up to a spirit standing at the foot of my bed. And you know what? That fear kept me stuck for years.
But here’s what I’ve learned: developing your psychic gifts doesn’t have to involve seeing or talking to spirits if that’s not what you’re ready for. Even though talking to spirits or seeing them is part of your psychic gifts, it comes in different forms as well.
There are many ways to tune into higher guidance. Some people feel it in their gut (clairsentience), others just know things without understanding why (claircognizance), and some hear their inner guidance clearly (clairaudience).
If you’re just beginning this journey, start with something simple, like try to listen to your own Higher Self. That quiet inner voice is already guiding you every day. When you’re stuck in a job that drains your soul, that subtle whisper might say, “You know this isn’t where you’re meant to be… what about that dream you’ve been putting off?”
That knowing, that pull toward something greater, is just as much a part of your psychic awareness as seeing spirits. And it’s the perfect place to start.
Developing your intuition is about learning to trust what feels deeply right, even when logic says otherwise. It takes courage, but the more you practice listening to that guidance, the stronger it becomes. Make sure you find things that feel right to you. As you get intuition and guidance, act in a way that makes you feel brave and connected.
Myth #3: All Psychics Have Clairvoyant Gifts
This is probably the biggest myth of them all. People assume that if you’re psychic, you must have these grand, movie-style visions of the future flashing before your eyes.
But here’s the truth: clairvoyance is just one way to receive intuitive information, and for many of us, it’s not even the primary one. There are so many clair gifts that a psychic can have that people can’t even imagine the capacity.
My strongest gifts are clairsentience (feeling energy and emotions deeply) and claircognizance (knowing information without knowing how I know it). My clairvoyance developed over time, but it’s still not the main way I receive messages.
A while back, I took a deep dive into my clients’ Akashic Records to explore their natural intuitive gifts. The results were fascinating.
• About 35% were primarily claircognizant.
• Another 30% were clairsentient.
• 30% identified as clairaudient.
• And only 5% were naturally clairvoyant.
Does this mean the other 95% weren’t psychic? Not at all. It simply means that their gifts express themselves through different intuitive channels.
If you’re not seeing vivid visions or flashing lights, that doesn’t mean you’re not psychic. It just means you have a different psychic “language”—and that’s just as powerful.
So next time you wonder, “Could I really be psychic?” remember this:
• Start by identifying which intuitive sense feels strongest for you.
• Honor and trust the guidance you receive through that channel.
• And then, give yourself time and space to consciously develop it.
Once you strengthen that primary gift, you might be surprised by how naturally the others begin to unfold.
Final Thoughts
Your psychic abilities aren’t some far-off dream reserved for the chosen few. They’re already within you, just waiting to be remembered, nurtured, and trusted. Identify your gifts, honor them, take the knowledge that you get, and try your best to develop your gifts.
The real magic happens when you stop doubting, start listening, and follow where that quiet voice inside is leading you. And believe me, that’s where the most incredible transformation begins.
“Your intuition is your birthright?” Really? That sounds like something out of a self-help seminar. If only life were so simple! There are countless factors at play when it comes to perception and awareness—it’s not just about opening doors.
“You don’t have to be born gifted?” Well, maybe if you just believe hard enough, you can fly too! 🙄 Let’s not pretend everyone has special powers just by wanting them; some things are actually grounded in reality!
‘The magic happens when you stop doubting.’ How convenient! Just ignore all your rational thoughts and everything will be fine? It’s comical how this post promotes blind belief in something so intangible without any real evidence! 😂
“Developing your intuition doesn’t have to involve talking to spirits.” Good luck explaining that one to someone who believes they saw a ghost last night! This whole topic is ripe for comedic misunderstanding—who knew spirituality could be so entertaining? 😄
While I appreciate the sentiment behind this article, I remain skeptical about psychic abilities being accessible to everyone. It seems like a lot of wishful thinking that could lead people astray from reality.
I found this article incredibly inspiring! The idea that we all have intuitive gifts waiting to be uncovered really resonates with me. It’s empowering to think I can develop my psychic abilities. 🌟
This post is a breath of fresh air! It’s refreshing to see someone encourage the exploration of our innate abilities. I’ve always felt there was more to intuition, and now I feel motivated to delve deeper into my own potential. 😊
This post raises interesting points about intuition and psychic development, but it oversimplifies the complexity of these experiences. Not everyone may find their gifts as easily, and that’s okay too. Knowledge varies widely among individuals.
